The Local Area

Sea viewLochan

Sonachan lies within 1000 acres of its own land, some 400 acres of which have been enclosed by fences to encourage the natural regeneration and protection of native flora and fauna without interference by farm stock. Five entrances to this conservation area permit easy access for walkers, birdwatchers and other nature lovers. Sonachan is ideally situated between the beautiful sandy beaches of Ardnamurchan’s north coast – with their many safe bathing areas – and Tobermory, scene of television’s Balamory, a short ferry ride away on the Isle of Mull. Other nearby attractions include the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan Point and the Ardnamurchan Natural History Centre.
